2024年2月28日～3月8日の10日間、社会福祉学科6名、健康栄養学科2名、薬学科1名、看護学科1名、生物生産学科1名、看護学修士2名、計13名がベトナムのホーチミン医科薬科大学を訪れ、研修を行いました。5年ぶりの派遣となる本研修は、大学での講義演習の他、病院、製薬企業、小学校視察等を通して現地の医療、福祉、食、教育事情を知り、ベトナムの歴史と文化を学びながら学生と交流するプログラムです。日本では馴染みの薄い伝統医学Traditional medicineの専門病棟を視察し、ハーブや漢方薬、鍼を使用した医療について知る機会を得ましたが、初めて見るものも多く、参加学生にとっては新鮮な思いで学びとる機会となりました。また、昨年秋に本学を訪れたホーチミン医科薬科大学の学生との再会をはじめ、先方の学生が毎日の食事や買い物にアテンドしてくれたおかげで、大変活発な学生交流が実現しました。英語が母国語ではない者同士ではありますが、言語の壁を超えて、日々の学生生活や将来のこと、夢に向けて頑張っていることなどを語り合いながら、大いに刺激し合い、大切な時間を共にすることができました。現地で受けた温かいもてなしから、人とのコミュニケーションについて多くのことを学んだ参加学生の今後の活躍に期待するばかりです。

In an enriching blend of academic pursuit and cultural immersion, our university embarked on an unprecedented journey to Vietnam, marking the first such endeavor in five years. This ten-day program, spanning from 28 February to 8 March 2024, saw a diverse group of 13 students from various departments, including Social Welfare, Health and Nutrition, Pharmacy, Nursing, Bioproduction, and Master of Nursing, converge at the esteemed Ho Chi Minh Medical and Pharmaceutical University.The heart of this program lay in its multifaceted approach to learning. Students were not only audience to enlightening lectures at the Vietnamese university but also engaged in insightful visits to a local hospital, a pioneering pharmaceutical company, and a primary school. These visits offered a rare glimpse into Vietnam’s integrated approach to medical care, welfare policies, nutritional practices, and educational frameworks.A highlight of the journey was the exploration of traditional Vietnamese medicine, a practice largely unfamiliar to our students. The visit to a ward specializing in traditional medicine, including treatments with herbs, Chinese medicine, and acupuncture, unveiled a whole new world of medical knowledge and practices, many of which were new to our students.Beyond academic enrichment, the program was a vibrant platform for cultural exchange. Our students reconnected with peers from the Ho Chi Minh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, reigniting friendships formed during their visit to our university the previous autumn. The warmth and hospitality extended by the Vietnamese students, who graciously attended to the daily needs and cultural explorations of our group, laid the groundwork for an active and meaningful student exchange.This journey transcended academic learning; it was a profound exercise in breaking language barriers and cultural differences. Through shared meals, shopping trips, and heartfelt discussions about life as students, future aspirations, and personal endeavors, a deep bond was forged among the participants. The program was not just about gaining new knowledge but also about understanding the universal language of empathy, friendship, and shared dreams.As we reflect on this enriching experience, we are filled with hope and anticipation for the future of these bright minds. The program was more than an academic venture; it was a journey of personal growth, cultural understanding, and global camaraderie. We look forward to witnessing how these experiences shape the paths of our students and their contributions to a more connected and understanding world.
