2022年12月23日（金）本学の留学生との交流を目的にグローバルカフェ特別編としてミニ交流会を行いました。研究者として所属するナイジェリア出身のAyodeleさんより、お国の文化、習慣、日本との関りについて等、写真を交えて、お話しいただきました。ナイジェリアには400を超える言語があり、住むエリアによって全く言葉が通じないので、意思疎通は公用語の英語を使うのだと、Ayodeleさんは流暢な英語で話してくれました。また、年上を敬う文化が大変強く、挨拶は膝まづいて行うのが礼儀だそうで、立ったままの会釈は失礼になるのだとか。その他、地域によって伝統的な民族衣装があるそうですが、日本の着物同様、現在は結婚式など、特別な時のみの着用だそうです。参加した学生からは食、日本とのつながり等、興味津々の質問があり、新しく知る楽しさを共有しました。また、世界遺産写真クイズでは、一番正解数が多かった人への賞品もあり、ちょっとした競争気分で盛り上がりました。キャンパスが異なると、普段はなかなか会えない学生同士ですが、今回、新しい友人を得たり、楽しいひと時を一緒に過ごしたりと、心温まる交流会となりました。次回もお楽しみに！

On 23 December 2022 (Fri), an exchange event was held as a special edition of the Global Café to interact with international students at the University. Dr Ayodele from Nigeria, a researcher affiliated with the university, gave a presentation, using photos, about his country’s culture, customs and relationship with Japan. Dr. Ayodele, in fluent English, explained that in Nigeria there are more than 400 languages, and tha therefore English, the official language, allows everybody to be able to communicate with each other. The culture of respect for elders is very strong, and it is polite to kneel when greeting people, and it is considered rude to just stand. There are also traditional ethnic costumes in different regions, but like the Japanese kimono, they are currently only worn on special occasions, such as weddings. The participating students asked questions about food, the connection with Japan and other topics of great interest, and shared the pleasure of learning something new. There was also a World Heritage photo quiz with a prize for the person with the most correct answers, which made the event feel a bit like a competition. Students from different campuses do not usually have a chance to meet each other, so this event gave them an opportunity to made new friends and have a good time together, making it a heart-warming social event.
